W
ith less than 90 seconds left in a
second overtime contest at then-
No. 14 Indiana Aug. 30, Irish freshman
midfielder Thomas Ueland picked an
opportune time to score his first-career
goal.
Ueland delivered a strike from in-
side the box into the right corner of the
net with the clock at 108:32, delivering
Notre Dame a 1-0 victory in Bloom-
ington, Ind.
"I thought we controlled the second
half and both overtimes," Notre Dame
head coach Bobby Clark told UND.
com. "The first half was a real battle.
As the game grew, I felt we grew into
the game, and the guys were very con-
fident at halftime."
In the first contest of the adidas/
IU Credit Union Classic Aug. 28 in
Bloomington, Ind., Notre Dame fought
to a 0-0 tie against then-No. 13 Mary-
land.
"We must give [director of sports
science] Matt Howley credit here be-
cause in both games we looked much
fitter than our opponents," Clark said.
Indiana actually outshot Notre
Dame 14-6 for the game, but the Irish
held the edge in shots on goal at 3-2.
"We've got really good resilience,
and one of the things we talk about
is never being outworked or out-
thought," Clark said. "When you play
teams like Maryland and Indiana there
are going to be tough times. You're not
going to dominate for 90 minutes. You
are going to be up against it.
"Indiana has a lot of good players;
they are a well-coached team and a
good team. This is one of the toughest
venues in the country to come to, and I
thought we were very resilient today."
