Getting To Know … FIFTH-YEAR SENIOR SAFETY AVERY SEBASTIAN Ishaq Williams' College Football Career Ends On Aug. 27, the NCAA ruled that Notre Dame senior defensive end Ishaq Williams is ineligible for the 2015 season. Williams was one of five Fighting Irish football players ensnared in an academic probe in August 2014 that also included current senior cornerback KeiVarae Russell. Williams was slated to be the starting strongside defensive end in 2014. He was replaced by then-sophomore Isaac Rochell, who joined classmates Jaylon Smith at linebacker and Cole Luke at cornerback as the lone Irish defenders to start all 13 games that season. Because of privacy regulations, no specifics were given on why Williams' case differed from Russell, who was reinstated by the NCAA this month. However, Russell is a college senior who took college courses at a community college last season to help maintain his academic standing. Williams, who would have been in his fifth season in 2015, did not. "We knew — and I think Ishaq knew — it was going to be an uphill fight," Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said. "But where he never wavered was coming back to school and getting his degree. The silver lining here was he is in school and we're very optimistic that he'll be able to finish his degree here in the short term."
