UNDER THE DOME NOSES FOR THE FOOTBALL One of the most significant football topics for Notre Dame entering the opener against Texas was to find a way to replace senior nose guard Jarron Jones, who was ruled out for the 2015 season because of a torn MCL suffered Aug. 14. Now, the men at nose feature the duo of sophomore Daniel Cage (6-0¾, 315), who was not even on Notre Dame's recruiting radar after his high school senior year, and freshman Jerry Tillery (6-6½, 305), who originally was projected as the heir to Notre Dame's NFL-prized tandem of Zack Martin and Ronnie Stanley as a left tackle on offense. Listed as the starter versus the Longhorns this week, Cage did not even receive a Notre Dame offer until less than a month prior to the 2014 National Signing Day. The only reason it came at all was 2010-13 Fighting Irish defen- sive coordinator Bob Diaco was hired as the head coach at the University of Daniel Cage, who appeared in 11 games and was credited with four tackles as a true freshman last year, was named the starter at nose guard prior to the season opener versus Texas.
