Kizer 's first experiences at Notre
Dame were certainly charmed. He
came off the bench to lead a fourth-
quarter rally against Virginia and won
his first two starts, leading an Irish
offense that averaged 46.0 points per
game.
Clemson was sure to pose the big-
gest test of his career, and the game
played out exactly that way. The Tigers
came into the Oct. 3 game determined
to make Kizer beat them by focusing
on shutting down the Irish ground at-
tack and limiting junior wide receiver
Will Fuller's ability to beat them over
the top.
The plan worked perfectly in the
early going. Kizer finished the first
quarter with just three completions
