1.6 Overnight ranking of ESPN's College GameDay from Clemson for its Oct. 3 clash with Notre Dame. It was the show's highest overnight rating since Nov. 30, 2013, from Au- burn for its showdown against Alabama. The actual Notre Dame- Clemson game had a 4.8 overnight rating, the third-highest this season across all networks, behind only the Sept. 7 Ohio State- Virginia Tech contest (6.6) and the Sept. 12 Oregon at Michigan State game (5.0). 18 Straight games that USC had scored a touchdown in the first quarter, until its Thursday night game versus Washington Oct. 8. The Trojans were up 21-0 on Notre Dame last November at the end of the first quarter. A fast start is one of the mandates by Irish head coach Brian Kelly after also falling behind 14-0 at Clemson in the 24-22 loss Oct. 3. 35 Points that USC defeated Notre Dame by last season (49-14). It tied the second highest margin of victory in the 86-game history of the series, behind only the 38-0 victory in 2007. The biggest margin of victory USC had over Notre Dame one year then saw the Irish avenge the defeat the next year was 1962-63. USC's 1962 national champs defeated the Irish 25-0 — but the next season a Notre Dame team that would finish 2-7 upset the No. 7 Trojans 17-14. 68 Ranking per an Oct. 8 USA Today survey among the 128 major college football teams for Brian Kelly's salary among head coaches. Kelly is listed at $1,187,272 — although the methodology of these figures, especially among private schools, can make it deceiving. The top five in total pay were Alabama's Nick Saban ($7,087,481), Michigan's Jim Harbaugh ($7,004,000), Ohio State's Urban Meyer ($5,860,000), Oklahoma's Bob Stoops ($5,400,000) and Florida State's Jimbo Fisher ($5,150,000). USC was one of six schools not listed. 1931 Was the most recent year — until 2015 — when Navy was on Notre Dame's schedule the week before the Irish played USC. From 1971-99, longtime rivals USC and Navy came back-to-back at home in odd-numbered years, with USC first, followed by Navy. In 1931, Notre Dame defeated Navy 20-0 before USC made its first trip ever to Notre Dame Stadium and ended a 26-game unbeaten streak by the Irish with a 16-14 win.
