UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Anders Bjork — Hockey The sophomore left wing from Mequon, Wis., was one of just 22 players named to the final roster for Team USA's World Junior Championship squad. A fifth-round pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Bjork tied for the team lead in points (16) in the first semester for the Irish. He scored five goals and contributed 11 assists for Notre Dame while skating in all 17 contests. Madison Cable — Basketball The fifth-year senior from Mt. Lebanon, Pa., was named the ACC Player of the Week Dec. 14, after averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in pair of Irish victories. Cable has increased her scoring average from 6.2 points per contest a year ago to 15.8 through 11 games this season. After scoring in double digits just 18 times her first three campaigns, she has already done so 10 times this season. Lane Richards — Baseball The senior infielder from Pendleton, Ore., was named a co- captain by his teammates after a successful junior campaign for the Irish. A two-time all-state performer in his prep days in Oregon, Richards has compiled a career fielding percentage of .948 in an Irish uniform. Last year, he set numerous career highs at the plate, including hits (57) and RBI (33). Karley Wester — Softball The junior outfielder from Huntington Beach, Calif., was named an Irish captain for the 2016 season by a team vote, becoming just the eighth non-senior to pick up that honor in program history. Wester was the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2014, and a first-team all-conference selection in 2014 and 2015. She led the league in batting average each of her first two seasons and boasts a career average of .441. TOP OF THE CLASS
