PREP PROFILES Haskell Garrett is well aware of the ties between Notre Dame and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, so when the junior de- fensive tackle was offered a scholarship by the Irish Dec. 14, it didn't take him long to know where to put the Blue and Gold on his short list of schools. "Notre Dame is definitely No. 1," he said. "They are up there because I really like Notre Dame, and a bunch of my family are Notre Dame fans." Garrett grew up playing alongside a couple current Irish freshman, safety Nicco Fertitta and tight end Alizé Jones, at Bishop Gorman. He said that his relation- ship with those two along with the suc- cess of Ronnie Stanley — another Bishop Gorman product — at Notre Dame has opened his eyes to the Irish. "I'm really close with Nicco Fertitta," Garrett said. "I remember last year, he was always preaching to me about what they had to offer and what it's like there. "I just think the football program speaks for itself, and he is always telling me just what it's like in class and stuff." Garrett has picked up early offers from USC, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Penn State, Washington, Nebraska, UCLA and Louisville. When asked who outside of Notre Dame is in the mix, he said that there are a number of different contenders at this stage in his recruit- ment. "I like Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC and that's about it," Garrett said. "I want to try and take some unof- ficial visits." Notre Dame as- sistant coach Todd Lyght was at Bishop Gorman during the spring evaluation period. While Gar- rett says he hasn't had a chance to talk much with the coach, he has heard nothing but good things about Lyght, who was an assis- tant coach at Bishop Gorman from 2009- 10. "I haven't really got to form a good relationship with him yet," Garrett said, "but from what I hear from my coaches, he's an awesome coach." The 6-1, 286-pound Garrett had 53 tackles, six sacks and four pass deflec- tions this past season for a Bishop Gor- man team that went 15-0 and won its seventh consecutive state title. He was a first-team all-state section on defense as a junior. — Andrew Ivins Irish Lead For Another Bishop Gorman Standout HASKELL GARRETT ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Bishop Gorman High School Las Vegas Status: Offered Class: 2017 Position: Defensive Tackle Ht.: 6-1 • Wt.: 286 40-Yard Dash: 4.9 Rivals Rankings: No. 3 prospect in Nevada, and No. 6 defensive and No. 106 overall re- cruit in the country
