UNDER THE DOME ✦ GIMME FIVE In 1964, Jack Snow became the first Notre Dame player to achieve 1,000 re- ceiving yards in a season. His 1,114 yards in catches during the Cinderella 9-1 sea- son placed him fifth in the balloting for the Heisman Trophy, which was won by teammate and quarterback John Huarte. Over the next 40 seasons (1965-2004), the only other Notre Dame player to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season was 2015 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Thom Gatewood). In the 11 years from 2005-15, how- ever, Notre Dame has had five different receivers reach 1,000 yards eight times. With the Fiesta Bowl still to be played, Will Fuller already joined Jeff Samardzija (2005-06), Golden Tate (2008-09) and Michael Floyd (2010-11) as consecutive 1,000-yard pass catchers. TJ Jones (2013) also was a 1,000-yard receiver. Here is the top five in single-season receiving yardage totals for the Irish: Player (Year) Yards 1. Golden Tate (2009) 1,496 2. Jeff Samardzija (2005) 1,249 3. Thom Gatewood (1970) 1,166 4. Michael Floyd (2011) 1,147 5. Will Fuller (2015) 1,145* * Does not include the 2016 Fiesta Bowl versus Ohio State, where with 105 yards he could move to No. 2. Equanimeous St. Brown Recovers From Surgery Freshman wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown traveled with the team to the Fi- esta Bowl, but he did not participate in the game after undergoing shoulder surgery. "He'll be with us, but we just don't have enough strength in that shoulder for him to be put out there to play," head coach Brian Kelly said prior to the game. "I don't know if anything happened in particular. He had surgery. "At first we thought we'd have kind of a bounce back like [DaVaris] Daniels had against BC [in 2012], which was about six weeks. It just didn't heal as quickly. Just doesn't have the strength to be able to put him out there." St. Brown was buried behind junior Will Fuller on the depth chart, but he was a special teams contributor. The rookie blocked a punt that fifth-year senior Amir Carlisle picked up for a touchdown in the 41-31 win over USC Oct. 17. — Andrew Owens MOVING?
