"Sometimes you make those types of moves because of the situation you're in and it ends up being a blessing in dis- guise," Franklin said. "It's still us search- ing for the best five and getting them on the field. Not only getting the right peo- ple on the bus, but getting them in the right seats as well. To be honest with you, more than that, we're kind of looking at, who are the other guys? Is it Noah Beh? Is it Sterling Jenkins? Is he ready yet? Is it Connor McGovern, who we're experi- menting a little bit with at tackle as well, who is doing a nice job for us for a true freshman?" Franklin added that the two-deep may still be unsettled when spring practice wraps up. That's an indication that Penn State has more depth than it did the pre- vious two years, but it isn't an unequiv- ocal advantage. "The more you have settled going into summer, the better" Franklin said. "We've got competition probably for the first time, so it may be a deal that goes into summer, but you would always love to have things resolved as much as you possibly can." The Blue-White Game probably won't settle anything on offense, especially since the defenses those players will be facing are likely to be without several top performers. Linebacker Nyeem Wart- man-White is still working his way back from the knee injury that ended his 2015 season last September and will definitely be out of action on Saturday. In addition, fellow linebacker Brandon Bell has been banged up this spring and is unlikely to see action. The Lions have also been dealing with an assortment of minor in- juries at all levels of their defense, so the units that fans see this weekend figure to bear little resemblance to the starting 11 that will take the field in September when Penn State opens its season against Kent State. The game will, however, serve as a springboard into Penn State's summer workouts, which constitute the next critical phase of the team's development. "Summer and spring ball are some of the most important times for us as far as this offense goes because now we're all being introduced to the offense and the way things work," Godwin said. "And now in the summertime, we have to take what we learned in the spring and take it upon ourselves to build on that, just going out and doing our own throwing sessions and things like that to make sure that when fall camp comes, it's not really us learning anymore, it's us picking up where we le@ off in the spring and taking it forward."
