to schools, they are guys who have started since they were sophomores. Davis didn't have that chance. This past season was his first season start- ing for us because of the guy that was in front of him. He played as a sophomore and helped us win a state title, but he didn't get his chance until now. "I think he's as good as any quar- terback in the nation and he's only going to continue to prove that." Sanford, who recruits Texas for the Irish, offered Davis during Notre Dame's bye week this past season. Mc- Guire said that Sanford only needed to see a couple of throws and take a quick glance at the transcript before deciding that Davis was the type of kid that he wanted in South Bend. "He's an A and B student," Mc- Guire said.
