BY ANDREW IVINS Indianapolis Cathedral four-star linebacker Pete Werner didn't need Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder to draw up plays on a white board to see if he would be a fit at Notre Dame. He also didn't need VanGorder or linebackers coach Mike Elston to compare him to some linebacker that once found success in South Bend to see where he would project. No, Werner says he didn't need the theatrics. Instead, all he needed to do was step foot on campus to know that Notre Dame was the place for him. Werner visited South Bend the weekend of March 19 for the mega Junior Day recruiting event. He ar- rived on campus with his parents not planning to make a commitment, but after talking with the coaches and seeing what the Irish had to offer its student-athletes, both on and off the field, he says the decision to commit Werner, a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 19 outside linebacker according to Rivals, picked Notre Dame over Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Northwestern.
