Kelly admitted that the reality of the situation is there can't be a happy resolution for both of those players and sophomore Brandon Wimbush. Kelly told FOX Sports in February that he expected to redshirt Wimbush this fall, before reversing course and including him in the quarterback competition this spring. Still, it seems to ultimately be a bat‑ tle between Kizer and Zaire. "They have different things they're working on and they're both pro‑ gressing at it," Kelly said. "They're both No. 1s. They both probably can't play at the same time. One's going to have to be the starter and somebody's going to be unhappy, but I can't keep them all happy. "We're not going to go into the sea‑ son with a team that does not have an identity. We're going to have an iden‑ tity as to who we are and that doesn't mean we can't play more than one quarterback. But we'll have a quarter‑ back and we'll get that established." The outspoken Zaire admitted a bit of frustration that he has to earn the starting job again. After redshirting in 2013, he lost a competition with Everett Golson in 2014 until starting the 31‑28 Music City Bowl win over LSU. Once Golson transferred the fol‑ lowing June, Zaire was the clear and undisputed No. 1 signal‑caller. Then, however, he suffered a frac‑ tured ankle in game two of the regu‑ lar season, which opened the door for Kizer. "You just really wonder what it's going to take to finally convince peo‑ ple enough that I'm able to do the
