in the long run might turn out to be the most talented among the field, but there just isn't enough practice time. "I'm not prepared to give up reps on Kizer or Zaire to fit Brandon in," Kelly said at the end of spring drills. "Brandon's doing everything he's been asked to do. He just doesn't get enough work." The good news is Wimbush appears to be well ahead of where Kizer was as the No. 3 quarterback at this time last year. Summary: When one combines big- game experience/success, size, run- ning skills/mobility, production and even future NFL potential, this could be the best QB trio at Notre Dame since … 1968. That year featured senior Terry Hanratty, who would become a sec- ond-round pick, rising sophomore Joe Theismann and senior Bob Belden, who would be on the Dallas Cowboys' roster for two seasons. RUNNING BACK Top Story: The development this spring of 210-pound sophomore Dex- ter Williams as an inside zone and goal-line runner made him possibly the most improved player on offense this spring, per Kelly. To augment that with the return of senior Tarean Folston, the top rusher the last half of 2013 and all of 2014, and sophomore Josh Adams, who set a freshman rushing record at Notre Dame with 835 yards and an average of 7.1 yards per tote, is significant. Other News: After missing the 2015 campaign because of a torn ACL, Folston returned with a quality spring, Sophomore tight end Alizé Jones has the athletic ability and skills to make a major contribution as a pass catcher this fall.
