◆ June 28, 1983 — Star center Ralph Sampson was the No. 1
pick in the NBA Draft, going to the Houston Rockets. He marked
just the fourth first-round selection in program history and went
on to average 21.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game en route
to an All-Star nod and Rookie of the Year honors.
◆ June 5-7, 2009 — The baseball team posted its first winning
record in the postseason (6-3) since 1996 (3-2) and reached the
school's first-ever Super Regional. Head coach Brian O'Connor's
team went 3-0 at the Irvine Regional to reach the next round
June 5-7 in Oxford, Miss. After falling in 12 innings in the series
opener against Ole Miss, outfielder JOHN BARR (2008-11) and
the Cavaliers won the next two games to reach the College
World Series for the first time in program history. They went 1-2
in Omaha, Neb., June 13-17 and finished in a tie for fifth.
◆ June 7-9, 2010 — The baseball team set a school record by having nine selections in the MLB Draft.
Third-year outfielder Jarrett Parker was the top selection, going in the second round, 74th overall, to
the San Francisco Giants.
