For the second time in three years, UVA fourth-year Danielle Collins claimed the NCAA singles cham-
pionship. The second-seeded Collins knocked off top-seeded Hayley Carter of North Carolina 6-3, 6-2
on May 30 in Tulsa, Okla., to become the first woman from the ACC and only the seventh nationally to
win a pair of NCAA singles crowns.
"I think mentally it was a lot tougher to win this one, but I did it. I don't really know how at this point
[if it feels sweeter] as it's kind of a blur," Collins said. "It's pretty sweet to go out winning a national
championship again to end my career. I'm just very fortunate."
During her final season in Charlottesville, the St. Petersburg, Fla., native went 38-4 in singles play, was
named first-team All-ACC and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Atlantic Region Senior Player of
the Year, and helped lead the Cavaliers to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for just the second
time in program history.
