UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Cavan Biggio — Baseball The junior second baseman was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round (No. 162 overall) of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft June 10. Biggio capped his stellar three-year Irish career by hitting .311 with four homers and 28 RBI in 2015. He led the Irish in hits (61), total bases (89), walks (54), stolen bases (14) and runs scored (43), and tied for the team lead in doubles (12). Isaac Rochell — Football The senior defensive lineman was one of the 90 players named to the watch list for the 2016 Chuck Bednarik Award, which has been pre- sented annually to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Rochell has started 25 of Notre Dame's 26 games over the last two seasons, and his 63 tackles in 2015 ranked fifth on the Irish and tops among all defensive linemen. Barbara Sullivan — Lacrosse The fifth-year senior defender and three-year captain was named one of four finalists for the Honda Sport Award for lacrosse. That honor has been presented annually by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards for the past 40 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports. Sullivan helped lead the Irish back to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2009, while leading the ACC in caused turnovers (55) in 2016. Karley Wester — Softball The junior outfielder was tabbed as a Division I All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the second time in her career. Wester hit .446, and her 91 hits, 68 runs and 46 stolen bases all shattered single-season school records. She posted the first 90-hit, 40-steal campaign in the program's history, and also became the first Irish player to notch at least 50 runs scored, 80 hits and 25 steals in three straight seasons.
