Nittany Lions overcome stubborn Kent State in opener
Penn State's season-opening 33-13 victory over
visiting Kent State on Saturday was by no means
overwhelming, but it got the job done – the job
being to give a redesigned offense and a new-look
defensive front a chance to establish themselves,
and to get the Nittany Lions to 1-0.
"We're happy with the win," coach James
Franklin said. "I think we could have been cleaner.
It wasn't as clean as we would have liked it to be,
but we scored over 30 points with a defensive
touchdown."
The Lions had to settle for field goals at times, as
