Kizer was also disappointed by the fact the officials in the booth did not use their discretion to review the call that the on-field officials clearly missed. He was also disappointed he put his teammate in position to take such a violent hit. "I don't know much about the rule and how that comes into play, but if there is targeting on a defenseless re- ceiver, I'm pretty sure that's a hit that you're going to want to replay over and over," Kizer said following the game. "What I know is I threw a ball that put my receiver at risk … but if he [El- liott] led with his head I don't under- stand what else could be done. From what I do understand, that's something that can be reviewed in the box. If they didn't see anything, I don't know what they're looking for." Kelly noted after the game that the medical staff was concerned with the lingering effects of the hit and that Hunter Jr. would be further evaluated during the week. His status for Notre Dame's Sept. 10 matchup against Ne- vada is seriously in doubt. Hunter Jr. was not the lone Notre Dame player to go down in the game. Sixth-year senior Avery Sebastian was also helped off the field, although Kelly does not believe his injury is as serious. "More than anything else, a shoulder stinger," Kelly said of Sebastian.
