Penn State unable to finish off rally in loss to rival Panthers
Say this for Penn State: It had its chances. At one
point in the fourth quarter of Saturday's matchup
with in-state rival Pitt, the Nittany Lions were 10
yards away from tying the score. Then, in the final
minutes, DaeSean Hamilton had the ball on his fin-
gertips with a chance to streak in for the go-ahead
touchdown.
The Lions weren't able to capitalize on either of
those opportunities, but if their 42-39 loss to the
Panthers feels disappointing and unsatisfying,
well, consider the alternative. Penn State could
have suffered a nationally televised embarrass-
ment. Indeed, that's where this game appeared
headed aAer the Lions spotted Pitt a three-touch-
down lead in the first half.
