and Wake Forest, and inter- est from Auburn, Clemson and Virginia Tech. The 6-2, 190-pounder announced his decision over his Twitter ac- count. "NC State is home," Mc- Daniel told The Wolfpacker. "It's a great place with great coaches, great people, great teammates to play with. It's the best place to be right now." McDaniel caught 33 passes for 529 yards and three touchdowns as a junior. At a Rivals.com/VTO combine McDaniel ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds and the shuttle in 4.12 seconds. He also had a 34- inch vertical jump and did 17 reps on the bench press at 185 pounds. Rivals.com rates him as the No. 87 wide- out in the country, the No. 22 recruit in North Carolina and a three-star prospect. Wide receiver Pharoah McKever, Tabor City (N.C.) South Columbus High McKever is a project, but NC State de- cided that that 6-6, 210-pounder was worth it when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds at its summer camp June 8. The Pack will try him out at wide receiver. McKever, who has taken multiple visits to State, committed on the spot when offered after the camp was over. "I felt like it was home," McKever ex- plained. "I like the atmosphere and every- thing about it." McKever played quarterback and safety as a junior. He completed 86 of 137 passes for 1,267 yards with 14 touchdowns and ran for an additional 11 scores. He inter- cepted a pair of passes on defense. McK- ever is a two-time all-conference pick. Running back Dakwa Nichols, Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond County High The speedy Nichols picked State May 1 over an offer from Air Force. At the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas combine held at Asheville (N.C.) High in April, Nichols blistered the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds. What may have been more impressive was his 3.97-second shuttle time. He used that speed and elusiveness to run 80 times for around 950 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior before breaking his foot. He also returned kicks and played corner. Nichols said that NC State is look- ing at him as a running back. "It was close to home, and they have 136 ■ THE WOLFPACKER Scan this code with your smart phone to stay up-to-date with recruiting news on the go! great academics and a great football pro- gram," Nichols said. "The coaches made me feel at home on every one of my visits." Linebacker Quinton Patterson, Shelby (N.C.) Crest High The 6-0, 215-pound Patterson made an unofficial visit to NC State June 10. That was all he needed to see, and he pledged for the Pack June 21. "I saw how they got things done down there, and that's kind of the same way I get things done," Patterson recalled. "What else hit me was their cam- pus. I just felt like I was at home." At the Rivals.com/VTO combine, Pat- terson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.83 seconds and the shuttle in 4.34 seconds. He had a 27-inch vertical jump and did 19 reps of 185 pounds on the bench press. Charlotte also offered Patterson. Offensive tackle Patrick Roane, Hope Mills (N.C.) Gray's Creek High Roane fits the mold of what State looks for in a blocker. He's long and lean on his 6-6, 290-pound frame, and when he ran his 40-yard dashes in the mid-5.4 sec- ond range at State's summer camp June 23, he proved he was athletic for his size as well. Roane earned an offer from State after the camp was over, and he committed two days later. "Everything about State is real beautiful. The facilities are amazing, and everything is top notch," he said. "It's a really good, high-quality ACC institution." NC State was Roane's first major offer. He also had been offered by Old Dominion and North Carolina A&T, while Duke and East Carolina were showing interest. Defensive back Jack Tocho, Charlotte Independence High Tocho possessed offers from Air Force, Army, Ball State and Charlotte when he showed up at NC State's summer camp June 10. Af- ter the 6-0, 185-pounder ran a pair of 40-yard dashes in the 4.40-4.45 second range and dominated one-on- ones, he left with an offer from NC State. Tocho also had a 33-inch vertical and a 4.25-second shuttle mark. Tocho verbally committed to the Pack June 22. "I just have a long relationship with them," Tocho noted. "I've gotten to know the school more than any other college or university I've been to, I really like the coaches and I really like the school, and I thought it was just about time that I just commit. I was waiting for that offer." As a junior, Tocho had 48 tackles, five interceptions and 28 passes broken up en route to all-conference honors. He also forced a fumble, blocked a kick and scored twice on kick returns. In addition, he runs track and was timed at 11.04 seconds this season in the 100-meter dash and 22.83 seconds in the 200. ■ plus videos of all the top prospects in the nation and NC State commitments, visit TheWolfpacker.com.
