Whether it entails trips to the South to meet with high school coaches or assessments of poten- tial walk-ons during the spring evalua- tion period, this sta2 has proven that it will do whatever it takes to strengthen its roster. One thing that has helped is Penn State's willingness to extend scholarship o2ers early in players' high school ca- reers. That's become evident this sum- mer, as the sta2 has already made o2ers to nine players who are just now begin- ning their sophomore seasons. Athlete Dean Engram of Gonzaga High in Washington, D.C., is one Class of 2019 prospect who has already received a Penn State o2er. If the name sounds familiar, that's because he's the son of former Penn State wide receiver Bobby Engram. His father's allegiances should help the Nittany Lion coaching sta2, but there will be a lot of competition, as he is expected to have plenty of options. So far, North Carolina State, Pitt and Toledo have all extended o2ers to En- gram, who could play either wide re- ceiver or defensive back at the college level. Engram isn't the only sophomore with both family ties to the Nittany Lions and a scholarship o2er in hand. Run- ning back Jordan Houston of Flint Hill High School in Oakton, Va., has a num- ber of Penn State graduates in his fam- ily, including his mother.
