30 OCT. 31, 2016 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED Notre Dame marched the ball all the way down to the Stanford 8-yard line and was knocking on the door for a tying score. Just like its previous four losses, the Irish were close but unable to fin- ish off the drive. Kizer took a sack on second down and then spiked the ball on third down to stop the clock. Notre Dame tried to get a pass out on fourth down but for the second game in a row, Kizer was pressured and took a sack, only to see the ball end up in the hands of left tackle Mike McGlinchey. "We felt like we had a play — the play was what we wanted," head coach Brian Kelly said of the fourth down call, which called for Kizer to take a shot to the end zone. "We had a fade [route] on. We got the play that we wanted." However, Kizer held onto the ball too long and allowed the Stanford pressure to get to him. Instead of finding ways to win, the Irish are finding ways to lose, and it changes each week. "It's just one of those things that's happening right now to us. We've got to find a way to win ballgames," said a disappointed McGlinchey. "It's not a matter of talking about it anymore. There's nothing really much we can say.
