GETTING A LEG UP
Virginia fourth-year punter Nicholas Conte was
honored for his accomplishments both on the field
and in the classroom in early November. The Roa-
noke, Va., native was one of 10 student-athletes
named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, which is
given annually to the National Punter of the Year. He
was also tabbed as a 2016 CoSIDA District Academic
All-American and a semifinalist for the National
Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy, which is
known as the Academic Heisman.
Through games of Nov. 12, Conte led the ACC and
ranked 11th nationally in punting average (44.8
yards per attempt), while his 29 punts inside the 20
led the country. Of those 29, 13 were downed inside
the 10-yard line, six inside the 5-yard line and five at
the 1-yard line. His career 44.7 punting average is a
program best.
In the classroom, Conte graduated with a degree
in human biology last May. He currently is pursuing
a master's in sports administration.
