PLAYER OF THE GAME On a night when he would send home a career- high four field goals, especially in the midst of a swirling rain, place kicker Tyler Davis deserves the nod here. He put the Nittany Lions ahead 9-0 in the first half with field goals of 32, 34 and 40 yards, then tacked on another 32- yard kick in the third quarter for good measure. PLAY OF THE GAMEPenn State sent the house against Rutgers' first punt at- tempt of the second half, and it really wasn't close. Juwan Johnson led the jailbreak, then Garrett Taylor fell on the ball to give the Nittany Lions posses- sion at the Scarlet Knights' 10-yard line. The turn of events would pay off three plays later, as Saquon Barkley cashed in for a 1-yard TD carry, giving the Lions a 16-0 lead in the third quar- ter. BEST PASS Penn State already had a 19-0 lead late in the third quarter, but quarterback Trace McSorley's 22-yard completion to Chris Godwin on the far sideline was pinpoint. McSorley's pass hit Godwin's hands just as the wideout drifted out of bounds, and the play moved the Nittany Lions into scoring position to fully put the game away. BEST RUNNittany Lion redshirt freshman running back Andre Robinson followed a wall of blockers into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. The untouched run boosted Penn State to a 25-0 lead after a failed PAT. McSorley's twisting, turn- ing, dancing jaunt for 11 yards in the fourth quarter gets an honorable men- tion nod. BEST CATCHThe play was relatively insignificant, but the concentration that Barkley showed in hauling in a screen pass from McSorley late in the first half was exceptional. The ball bounced off his hands, but sticking with it, the sophomore running back brought it in for an 8-yard pickup. WORST DROPMiles Sanders could not have imagined of a worse way to start the game for the Nittany Lions on Sat- urday night. First, he dropped the opening kickoff then inadvertently kicked the loose ball toward the oncom- ing Rutgers coverage team, giving the Scarlet Knights possession at the 19- yard line. Sanders later had a tough, but catchable, pass skip off his fingertips in the end zone. BEST SACKPenn State linebacker Brandon Bell nearly decapitated Gio- vanni Rescigno late in the first quarter. With the Scarlet Knights' quarterback running to his left, Bell unleashed a blindside hit to knock the ball loose and JUDGMENT CALLS N O V E M B E R 2 0 , 2 0 1 6 B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . c O M 4 N A T E B A U E R | N B A U E R @ B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . c O M
