PSU soars into Big Ten title game with rout of Spartans
All week long, there had been talk that Michigan
State was a sleeping giant, a bowl-caliber team
disguised as a three-win mediocrity, a team that
was ready, willing and able to spoil Penn State's Big
Ten championship hopes. For 30 minutes on Sat-
urday a@ernoon, it seemed as though that talk
might turn out to be prophetic.
But as the Nittany Lions have proved again and
again this season, 30 minutes isn't gonna cut it. As
is their custom, they dominated the second half,
scoring 35 unanswered points to deal the visiting
Spartans a 45-12 loss and claim the Big Ten East
Division title. The victory, their eighth in a row,
earned them a spot in Saturday's league title game
against West Division champ Wisconsin and kept
alive their much-debated hopes for a berth in the
