University School four-star offensive tackle Trey Smith did not take his official visit to Notre Dame as scheduled. It was a big blow not only to the list, but also the chances for the Irish to land Rivals' No. 14 offensive tackle and No. 91 overall player in the country. Smith was scheduled to take an official to Ohio State Nov. 26 and will only have one more chance to visit Notre Dame before he announces his choice from among his finalists — Tennessee, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Clemson — on ESPN Dec. 6. It is likely he visits Tennessee — the favorite to land him — the weekend before his decision. It may have been difficult to get Smith in the end, but the visit to South Bend was the staff's last chance to impress the talented tackle. Un- less new offers go out or new interest is show in prospects committed elsewhere, Notre Dame's chances to land an- other offensive lineman hinge on Graham (Wash.) Kapowsin five-star tackle Foster Sarell and El Cerrito (Calif.) High four- star tackle Aaron Banks. • A surprise visitor did make his way to Notre Dame to watch the Irish take on Vir- ginia Tech. Cincinnati La Salle three-star safety and Louisville commit TreSean Smith took an unofficial visit to South Bend. Smith, who was offered by the Irish in Octo- ber, was initially unsure if he would visit Notre Dame when he received the offer. Now the next line of business between Smith and the Irish would be getting the safety back on campus for an of- ficial visit. • La Mirada (Calif.) High four- star athlete Elijah Hicks made a bit of news when it was discov- ered he was taking an official visit to Michigan Nov. 19. However, a source close to the situation in- dicated Irish fans had nothing to worry about and Hicks would be signing with Notre Dame. The source said "100 percent" Hicks is all Irish, and the trip was simply an opportunity for the Hicks family to take a family trip to a major col- lege program. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney Follow @BGI_CoreyBodden and @BGI_DMcKinney on Twitter for daily recruiting updates available on BlueandGold.com!
