continued from previous page for sport programs, reduction of non-coaching personnel in football and basketball and a reduc- tion in scholarships in football and basketball. At the January 2012 NCAA Board of Di- rector's meeting, however, the group only rec- ommended the following changes that were adopted: an immediate moratorium to cap the number of contests/dates of competition at the levels that currently exist in all sports (i.e. no changes to increase the number of contests in a sport); commission a study to determine the maximum number of contests/dates of compe- tition of the playing season (championship and non-championship segments) that is essential to the success of each NCAA sport; and once the study is completed and the appropriate contest/ dates of competition limits are in place for each sport, that those limits remain in place for 10 years. As you can see from the last two newsletters, the landscape of college athletics continues to change. Over the next year, the NCAA Bylaws and Enforcement Working Groups will propose many changes and the reality of these working groups will take place. So, stay tuned as "The Times They are A-Changin" for the NCAA Division I membership.
