Overall, this time at the Olympics was much more fun for the veteran, though he denies that the Olympic Village was as much fun as ESPN The Magazine made it seem in its pre-Olympic issue. Even for someone who made the top 10 sexiest If anything, Jones learned this time that millions of people are watching what he and his teammates do, from second cousins to superstars. Just last week, he was in New York to cel- ebrate his accomplishments and he ran into "Personally, I still think of myself as that awkward little kid who found it hard to get in the pool. I am kind of blown away. It's really cool." ■ Jones Olympians by Cosmopolitan, The Guard- ian, People and Seventeen. "It's not as crazy as everyone thinks," Jones said. "It's really not that wild." But he did confirm Lochte's biggest rev- elation about Olympic swimmers — that they sometimes can't make it to the locker room to relieve themselves of all that pre- race or pre-practice hydration. "We have mean coaches who won't let us get out of the water," Jones said, laughing again that Lochte let that little secret out of the bladder. Chris Brown. The singer came up to him and said, "Oh, my God, I saw your race." "Personally, I still think of myself as that awkward little kid who found it hard to get in the pool," Jones said. "I am kind of blown away. It's really cool. You don't re- ally understand how many people watch the Olympics … because we are in such a bub- ble from training and living in the Olympic Village and training for all these events." Jones is hoping to meet one more super- fan of the U.S. Olympic team — President Barack Obama. "I've been told that once you make the Olympic team, you get to shake hands with the President," he said. "I am really hoping that is true. I would truly like to do that. "I don't really get star-struck, but I am pretty sure that would leave me speechless." While Phelps has already announced his intentions to retire, Jones says he and Lochte are ready to begin their quest for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. "I think that I still have something left in me, a lot more left in the tank," Jones said. "Ryan and I were actually talking about it recently. 'Do we retire, or keep going?' He said: 'We're going to Rio.'" And, truth be told, Jones didn't reach his ultimate goal at this Olympics, to stand on the top spot and listen to "The Star- Spangled Banner." "Winning an Olympic silver medal is great," Jones said decisively. "But I really want to get gold. After seeing how crazy the competition was this time out there, I learned a little more about myself. I know I can still compete at this level." ■ You may contact Tim Peeler at tim_peeler@ncsu.edu.
