■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING OFFENSIVE TACKLE JARYD JONES-SMITH Philadelphia West Catholic High The 6-6, 325-pound Jones-Smith earned an NC State offer in June after a solid per- formance at the Pack's sum- mer camp. The Pack joined Arizona, Central Florida, Pittsburgh and Virginia, among others, on Jones- Smith's offer list. Jones-Smith has stated a preference to stay on the East Coast for col- lege. There has been a feeling that NC State and Virginia could quietly be at the top of his list with Pittsburgh a dark horse. Rivals.com rates Jones-Smith as a two- star prospect. DEFENSIVE LINEMAN GREG GILMORE Hope Mills (N.C.) Southview High NC State has always been the in-state school of choice for the highly touted Gilmore, who had 79 tackles and a pair of sacks as a junior. "NC State is a good school, the best school in North Carolina," Gilmore explained. "Duke is a basketball school, and UNC is very unstable." Convincing Gilmore to stay local for col- lege, however, has been a challenge. The 6-4, 275-pounder, who could proj- ect at either tackle or end in college, has long been believed to favor LSU, although Alabama, Clemson and Florida are also in the mix. Rivals.com ranks Gilmore as a four-star recruit, the No. 4 prospect in the state, the No. 12 strongside defensive end in the coun- try and the No. 202 overall player in the 2013 class. DEFENSIVE TACKLE CHASZ WRIGHT Woodbridge (Va.) C.D. Hylton High Wright, a physically imposing 6-7, 275-pounder, had flown under the recruiting radar for most of the sum- mer despite running the 40- yard dash in 5.01 seconds and the shuttle in 4.85 sec- onds at a Rivals/VTO com- bine in April. Connecticut and Old Do- minion offered the two-way lineman early in the summer, but then on the third weekend of August his offer list doubled in a major way. First NC State offered Wright as a defen- sive tackle on Aug. 17, and then two days later Penn State tendered him as a left of- fensive tackle. Wolfpack defensive line coach Keith Wil- lis is recruiting Wright for the Wolfpack.
