■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING KEEPING WOLFPACK FANS COMFORTABLE FOR 50 YEARS NC State, Duke and North Carolina are among a long list of schools that are pursuing Randle, a 6-8, 235-pound power forward from Texas. PHOTO COURTESY CATS ILLUSTRATED his assistants were among the coaches that tracked Randle throughout his five games in North Augusta, S.C. The Rivals.com No. 2-ranked overall player in the class of 2013 unofficially visited NC State for the Western Carolina contest at PNC Arena on Dec. 31, 2011. "Coach Gottfried and [assistant] Coach [Orlando] Early are great people and great coaches," Randle said. "All their players seem to like them. I really like talking to them, and I could see myself in the future playing for them." Randle is unique in having NC State, Duke and North Carolina all offering and actively recruiting him. Duke senior power forward Ryan Kelly might be the last player all three Triangle colleges recruited and offered. Kansas, Texas, Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Kentucky are some of the other schools in the mix for Randle. He's expected to wait until the spring signing period. "All those schools have great history and great coaches. It's a great honor to have those caliber of schools recruit you," Randle said. "Duke has Coach K [Mike Krzyzewski] and they've won a lot, and he's done great with players. "NC State has won championships [1974 and 1983], and Coach Gottfried has turned the face of that program around. Caro- lina, they have a lot of great players come through. They've won a lot. You can't go wrong with those schools." Randle played on the USA Under-18 squad in Brazil with Purvis and five other future ACC players in the FIBA Americas Championship. He led the 5-0 squad with 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, and shot 54.8 percent from the floor. "That was probably the best experience I've ever had so far," Randle said. "To play with those great players and the college coaches was really good for me.
