(Mater Dei) Will Fuller, 6-0, 165, Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) Master List Changes Prospects removed: RB Altee Tenpenny of Little Rock, Ark. (remains committed to Alabama); RB David Williams of Philadelphia (focused on other programs); LB Marcus Ball of Columbus, Ohio (Michigan State and Wisconsin on top); and LB Kendell Beckwith of Jackson, La. (top two remain as Alabama and LSU). 2014 Notre Dame Commits: WR Justin Brent of Indianapolis and LB Greer Martini of Woodberry Forest, Va. Recruiting Notes • After adding Doug Randolph of Woodberry Forest, Va., to its 2013 recruiting class to bring the total number of commits to 20, Notre Dame’s numbers game got a bit tighter in regards to remaining spots in the class with around three key spots left to fill. The primary needs left are a dynamic playmaker, a cornerback and a cornerback that could also line up as a safety. There’s room for another outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid in the group, like Randolph, but those additions to the class would be considered bonuses after the Irish landed the three main positions left. Notre Dame will continue to pursue targets that fit into the outside linebacker/defensive end position like Austin Hooper of Concord (Calif.) De La Salle, Alquadin Muhammad of Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep, Isaac Savaiinaea of Honolulu Punahou (committed to Stanford and set to visit for Notre Dame’s game against the Cardinal in South Bend on Oct. 13) and others, because there are no certainties in recruiting even though five linebackers are already verbally committed in Randolph, Alex Anzalone of Reading (Pa.) Wyomissing, Michael Deeb of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage, Danny Mattingly of Spokane (Wash.) Mead and Jaylon Smith of Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers. • While Anzalone was the only commitment listed as a prospect that could potentially visit another program, with Florida’s game against LSU on Oct. 6 targeted, Mattingly is considering other visits also. The nation’s No. 25 outside linebacker and No. 3 player in Washington according to 247Sports has remained in contact with Pac-12 programs pursuing him such as Oregon and UCLA. Even though he hasn’t completely removed the notion of visiting elsewhere, he has talked to Notre Dame since he started considering it and is more settled in on his choice after having the reasons why he chose the Irish in the first place reiterated. Mattingly is in a position where if he did opt to visit elsewhere, Notre Dame may make a move on another player at his position, so there will be strong consideration before even taking that step. At this point, however, the Washington native is on board with the 2013 recruiting class. • If there were three recruits that would essentially satisfy the main recruiting needs that remain in Notre Dame’s class they would be running back Tarean Folston of Cocoa (Fla.) High, cornerback Cole Luke of Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton and defensive back L.J. Moore of Fresno (Calif.) Central East. Folston, who is ranked by 247Sports as Florida’s No. 25 prospect, the nation’s No. 14 running back and the country’s No. 182 overall player, is still looking to schedule a visit to Notre Dame after not making it out to campus this past summer. Luke is slated to be on campus for the Michigan game after visiting over the summer. While programs like Oklahoma, Texas and USC are all in the race, the Irish remain in the mix as one of his scheduled trips. He’s tabbed by 247Sports as the No. 2 player in Arizona, the nation’s No. 8 cornerback and the No. 61 overall recruit in the land. Moore, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 26 player in California, the country’s No. 17 cornerback and the No. 233 overall prospect nationally, has had the Irish high on his list since the beginning of the process and has been waiting for some time to get to South Bend for his visit during the Michigan weekend. He’s a versatile option that can line up at either position in the secondary. — Jason Sapp
