The best and the rest from the Nittany JUDGMENT P LAYER OF THE GAME Matt McGloin completed 24 of 36 attempts for 318 yards and a touchdown with one fluke interception. PLAY OF THE GAME McGloin got his first rushing touchdown since 2010 –a 1-yard sneak late in the first half – to give the Lions a 14-3 lead going into the locker room. BEST PASS McGloin hit tight end Kyle Carter on a perfect throw to the side- line late in the first quarter, beating Temple cornerback Tavon Young by an inch and picking up 20 yards. WORST PASS Temple quarterback Chris Coyer had tight end Cody Booth wide open on a misdirection play on second-and-5 from the Penn State 8- yard line early in the second quarter, but threw it over his head. BEST CATCH Allen Robinson separated from Temple defensive back Zamel Johnson on fourth-and-5 from the Temple 41-yard line, pulling in Mc- Gloin's pass and zipping into the end zone. The score gave the Nittany Lions a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. WORST DROP Temple wideout Ryan Al- derman had an easy first down late in the first quarter, but Coyer's pass slipped through his hands, forcing the Owls to punt. Penn State's Brandon Moseby-Felder gets a run- COACHSPEAK SPEAKING HIS MIND O'Brien had a fit on the sideline after officials called pass interference on tight end Kyle Carter. "They felt like he was blocking while the ball was in the air," he said. "Good call, whatever." BEST TACKLE Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Hill went straight up the middle against Temple's porous interior offensive line late in the sec- ond quarter, stripping Coyer and set- ting up an impossible third-and-long for the Owls. BEST SACK Kyle Baublitz came up with a huge 3-yard sack on Coyer on a crucial fourth-and-5 play early in the fourth quarter. BEST KICK Temple's Brandon Mc- Manus showed why he's so good, sending home 33- and 42-yard field goals for the Owls. BEST RETURN Jesse Della Valle took Brandon McManus' 50-yard boot back 29 yards, shifting through a porous Temple punt coverage team. The return was Penn State's longest of the season. MOST TELLING MOMENT On first-and-10 from the Temple 34-yard line, Carter got called for offensive pass interfer- ence. It was not the correct call. In- stead of a huge pickup on a pass to Matt Lehman, the play was called back, sending Bill O'Brien into orbit on the official who made the call. – NATE BAUER Lions' triumph over the Owls CALLS
