(committed to Rutgers). 2014 Notre Dame Commits: WR Justin Brent of Indianapolis and LB Greer Martini of Woodberry Forest, Va. Recruiting Notes • Running back Tarean Folston of Cocoa, Fla., is an ideal fit for the remaining need in the class of a slot receiver/running back hybrid, and the Irish coaching staff will likely wait to see what happens with his recruitment prior to taking commitments from others at the position. The nation’s No. 11 running back, No. 20 player in Florida and No. 127 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports, has kept his recruitment under wraps, but Florida State, Notre Dame and South Carolina are among the programs that he’s strongly considering at this stage. He has maintained that he wants to get to South Bend for an official visit, but that trip hasn’t been scheduled as of Sept. 21. It works out in Notre Dame’s favor that the primary competition for Folston at this time doesn’t have him as high on their recruiting boards. South Florida, though, is another team to watch, considering the proximity and familiarity. The Florida native’s sister is a top track recruit, and the two of them have mentioned attending the same school. The Irish track program has expressed interest in Folston’s sister. • Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation running back Alex Collins received a bump in the 247Sports rankings, and is now listed as the top player at his position nationally, the No. 10 recruit in Florida and the No. 38 overall prospect in the country. Collins is a player to watch while Notre Dame continues to evaluate its options at the position. The Irish coaching staff plans to check on Collins during the bye week while on the road recruiting. The Miami commit will welcome the interest, with Florida State and Wisconsin possibly the two programs out front at this time despite the in-state pledge. The dual-sport athlete (lacrosse) is slated to visit Wisconsin on Oct. 6, so Notre Dame also could try to line up an official visit if all goes well during the staff's trip to his school. • Wide receiver Devon Allen of Phoenix Brophy College Prep canceled an official visit to Arkansas due to a reduced level of interest. He scheduled three others in the process, including a stop at Notre Dame. The dual-sport star (track) will head to Texas on Oct. 6, Notre Dame on Oct. 13 for its game against Stanford and UCLA on Nov. 16. He plans to schedule two more remaining trips, but has yet to decide on which schools will receive those visits. Allen currently has UCLA leading the pack following an unofficial visit, therefore the other options on the table know which one to watch for at this point. He’s rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 player in Arizona, the No. 23 wide receiver nationally and the No. 212 overall recruit in the country. • Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza cornerback Priest Willis, who is tabbed by 247Sports as the No. 3 cornerback in the land, the top player in Arizona and the No. 23 overall prospect in the nation, was scheduled to take an official visit to Notre Dame for the Michigan game on Sept. 22, but adjusted his trip due to the Under Armour All-American jersey presentation at his school the night before. He rescheduled the trip to South Bend for the Stanford game on Oct. 13. His other visits are currently set to Nebraska on Oct. 26 and LSU on Nov. 2. — Jason Sapp
