2012-13 HOCKEY PREVIEW Mike Szuma • D Powers: "He was stuck in a numbers game a year ago. The other thing is he twisted his ankle early in the season and was off the ice for three or four weeks, so when the opportunity was there, he was hurt. He didn't get an opportunity, but we saw a kid that improved his practice habits. He has a great attitude; comes to the rink with 110 percent. We won't be surprised at all if he's banging on the door and po- tentially knocking someone out of his spot. Assistant Coach Billy 5-11 • 193 Novi, Mich. Honors & Awards: None. "He's an athletic kid, and he's a really nice kid. He's 5-10, not a huge kid. Es- pecially at our level, we get 6-4 guys that are blockers. They'll make their .900 save percent- age but they fall into a habit, they don't have to react or move to the puck. They're not great technicians. Without the big body, you have to make sure they're always reacting to the puck, don't rely too much on their size. He has a lot going for him and it will help as he gets into games, adjusts to college hockey. From day one, he'll look like a junior or senior on the ice. There are three or four special freshmen every year, and he's right there in that list. It's not often you get that freshman defen- seman that can log high minutes, but Trouba will be that guy.
