MICHIGAN RECRUITING Quarterback Commitment Shane Morris Is Diagnosed With Mononucleosis A class, Warren (Mich.) De La Salle quarterback Shane Morris won't be tearing up the field in his senior sea- son. The five-star quarterback has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will miss at least a month of the season. lthough he's the highest-rated commitment in Michigan's 2013 Prior to the illness, Morris had completed 40 of 83 passes (48.2 per- cent) with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Although the diagno- sis would typically end a high school player's season, Morris will do what- ever he can to see the field as a high schooler one more time. The first priority, of course, is his long-term health. "It's just real bad mono, but I'll be fine," Morris said. "I'm going to try as hard as I can to return to the field." Morris, who is currently ranked as the top player in Michigan, the No. 2 pro-style quarterback nation- ally and the No. 17 overall senior in the land by Rivals.com, should not see his ranking slip due to the illness. Rivals.com national recruit- ing analyst Mike Farrell believes it's unfair to move him down due to an illness that should have no long-term impact on his game. "It's a tough call, because it's hard to punish illness," Farrell said. In the first full game of Morris' absence, De La Salle fell to Detroit Catholic Central 31-30 in overtime. conference schedule, Michigan has had fewer opportunities than usual to host recruits on campus this fall. Of the Wolverines' first five games, three are on the road, and U-M also has a bye week in that stretch. Once that stretch comes to an end following the Oct. 6 game against Purdue, the Wolverines will be back in business from a recruiting stand- point.
