26 CAVALIER CORNER 2016-17 VaSID academic all-state team 6 Virginia Field Hockey senior mid- fielder Tara Vittese, was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in her career. More impressively, Tara was named the National Offen- sive Player of the Week (Sept. 6) by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association. 323 The 61st annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, recognizing academic excel- lence by student-athletes during the 2016-17 academic year, was announced in July by Commis- sioner John Swofford. Virginia placed 323 student-athletes on the Honor Roll. A total of 40 Cav- aliers were recognized for the fourth time during their careers, with two (Nick Conte/football and Chris Yankowich/wrestling) being honored for the fifth time. Virginia's third consecutive NCAA men's tennis champion- ship helped Virginia athletics to a 19th-place finish in the final 2016-17 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup competition, announced in June by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Virginia placed in the top 20 for the 11th consecutive year and is one of 12 schools to rank in the top 30 of the final Director's Cup standings in the 24-year existence of the program. Points in the Director's Cup standings are awarded by a school's finish in each sport in which it competes in NCAA post- season play.
