28 CAVALIER CORNER The UVA Men's Tennis program celebrated their 2017 national championship on Friday, Sept. 15 at Boar's Head Inn with dinner and a ring ceremony. The championship team, includ- ing the four recent graduates, received their rings and were honored by their coaches, ath- letics support team, families, women's tennis student-athletes, donors and alumni. Dirk Katstra welcomed guests and recognized retiring athletics director Craig Littlepage, which concluded with a standing ovation. Head coach and director of tennis Andres Pedroso talked about returning to the tennis staff and recognized the incredible program he had in- herited. Pedroso served as Virginia's associate head coach from 2010-14. Scott Beardsley, Dean of the Darden School, introduced former head coach Brian Boland who returned to Charlottesville to be part of his fourth UVA championship celebration. Boland shared personal memories about each of the players, coaches and families while reflecting on his 16-year head coach career at UVA. Former and current coaches distributed the rings, Pedroso introduced the first-year members of the team and Michael Guthrie presented Boland with a framed collection of anonymous personal notes from the Z Society. The evening included video highlights from the 2017 season and a closing sentimental montage of personal video messages to Boland and his wife Becky by many tennis alumni. Brian and Becky were thanked for their friend - ship, leadership and support over the years. The following day, the 2017 championship team was recognized on the field during the UVA vs. UConn football game as highlights from the season played on the videoboard. The 2017 Virginia Athletics Foundation's Social Tour continued this fall with an event in Charlot- tesville on Sept. 1 and in Baltimore on Sept. 7. The final Social Tour stop will be in Suffolk on Sept. 27. Head women's golf coach Kim Lewellen and as- sociate head men's basketball coach Ron Sanchez were guest speakers for the Charlottesville Social held in Scott Stadium prior to the Hoos home opener against William and Mary. In Baltimore, head lacrosse coaches Lars Tiffany and Julie Myers spoke before a passionate group of donors and fans, most with a special affinity for UVA la - crosse. The coaches thanked the lacrosse student-athlete alumni in attendance for their dedication to UVA. Nearly 230 donors and fans have attended the fall socials to date. For photo highlights from each Social stop, visit the VAF Facebook page. Each year we look forward to the Social Tour as a way to connect donors and fans directly with the Virginia Athletics program, which is sup - ported through the generosity of VAF donors. Thank you to everyone who attended this year!
