T H E M O N T H I N . . . This is a place with good values and good people. Our football team is just a re- flection of that. When I first arrived here, this was a program with tremendous pride and tradition in need of a spark. Today we still have that same pride and tradition, but the difference is that everyone knows exactly where we're headed. Right to the top. JAMES FRANKLIN THEPLAYERSTRIBUNE.COM Of all the great recruiting James Franklin has done since arriving here, a case can be made that no one has made a bigger one-year splash than Joe Moorhead. Never NEIL RUDEL ALTOONA MIRROR I take this game personally because of what happened last year. I didn't like the disrespect last year they gave Penn State in general. I didn't like how they disre- spected Coach Franklin or anything like that. So I took it personally. Especially walking out of that stadium last year and how the fans were totally disrespectful to us. That's why I took it personally. SHAREEF MILLER, on this year's game vs. Pitt I think we're playing at an elite level. I think we're making plays on the football better than we have done the last three years here. I have a great group guys. They're talented, they're locked in and they prepare really, really well. They work hard during the week to perfect their cra5. They've worked really hard in the o4- season to get their footwork and eye discipline in place. It's important to these guys, and it's important that these guys want to make a name for themselves. We have LBU and the Wild Dogs up front. Our [cornerbacks] want to make a name for themselves, and that's what they've done the 3rst two games. It's a long sea- son. TERRY SMITH, cornerbacks coach, on the performance of his players O P I N I O N S Q U O T E S week rosters: Detroit, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. Gould is the Lions' elder statesman, and is followed by Chiefs All-Pro linebacker Tamba Hali in his 12th season, Posluszny (11th), Wake and Lee (ninth). However, Hali began the year on the physically un- able to perform list with an unspeci3ed injury. He is expected to miss at least the 3rst six weeks of the season. Hogan, a wide receiver in his 35h NFL season, played football for one year at Monmouth a5er earning his Penn State degree. Travis, a tight end in his second season, was a standout for the Nittany Lion basketball team. Seven former Nittany Lions are on the sidelines as part of NFL coaching sta4s in 2017: Gary Brown (Dallas, running backs), Bobby Engram (Baltimore, wide receivers), Al Golden (Detroit, tight ends), D'Anton Lynn (Los Angeles Chargers, defensive assistant), John Mc- Nulty (Los Angeles Chargers, tight ends), Mike Munchak (Pittsburgh, of- fensive line) and Darren Perry (Green Bay, safeties). Also, former Penn State quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Detroit Lions. Freshman CB Johnson heads to Cincinnati T.J. Johnson seemed to be on the rise at Penn State, but only months after an eye- opening performance in the Blue-White Game, in which he made five tackles and pulled down an interception, the redshirt freshman cornerback announced he was transferring to Cincinnati. "Signing on to play for Penn State University has been one of the proudest moments of my life as well as my family and friends," Johnson said via Twitter. "Which is why this was one of the hard- est decisions of my life." A Cleveland native, Johnson would have been battling true freshmen Tariq Castro-Fields and Lamont Wade for playing time behind veterans Grant Haley, Christian Campbell and Amani Oruwariye. ■ PSUtixman@gmail.com www.PSUtixman.com Get your PSU Football Tickets at go t ti cke t s? k c i t t t e k man@g .PSUtixm www. at ootba Get yo k c i t t o gm .PSUtixman.com all ur s t s e k
