58 THE WOLVERINE DECEMBER 2017   FOOTBALL RECRUITING No. 24 strongside defensive end in the country and showed enough on his senior film to earn a tender from the Michigan staff. In early October, Upshaw seemed to be as solid as a rock in his commit- ment to the Gators. He was saying all the right things and seemed to be pleased with his decision. "I'm not taking any other visits. I'm 100 percent all in [with Florida]," Up- shaw said. "I'm enrolling early. The staff is really happy about that, and I'll be able to get two months of lifting and working out with the team before I participate in the spring." Fast forward to early November, McElwain is out and Upshaw is plan- ning to take an official visit to Michi- gan for the Ohio State game. He's still committed to Florida, but a successful trip to Ann Arbor in late November could give him something to think about with a lot of question marks surrounding the Gator program. Highly Unlikely JAMIEN SHERWOOD, SAFETY Committed to Auburn Jensen Beach (Fla.) High The four-star safety picked up an offer from Michigan in June and was seemingly blown away. The No. 17 safety and No. 200 overall prospect nationally almost couldn't believe Michigan was a real option. "I thought Michigan was a pretty hard school to get an offer from," S h e r w o o d e x - p l a i n e d . " T h e y only want who they want, so for me to get an offer from them means a lot. It definitely boosts my confi- dence level up. I think that Michigan is a great school, and only the best players can play there. I was really happy to pick that up." Sherwood checked out Ann Arbor earlier this year with close friend and fellow Florida native David Reese, and also seemed to love ev- erything he experienced. Like Re- ese, Sherwood was very drawn to defensive coordinator Don Brown and seemed to be considering the Wolverines because of him. "The way Coach Brown told me that he could use me like Jabrill Pep- pers means a lot because I like play- ing everywhere," Sherwood said. "I don't really like playing just one po- sition because at my school I pretty much play them all. "To be able to do that in college would mean a lot. I like the idea of always being on the field. Michigan is at the tops of my list right now because of that." Eventually, Sherwood spurned the Wolverines for Auburn and hasn't really wavered. He's still thinking about taking some other visits, and Michigan could be one. However, he hasn't expressed any displeasure about his future at Auburn. At 6-2, 200 pounds, he's a great- looking safety prospect and has been near the top of U-M's board for the position throughout. Expect him to get some attention, but it's going to be very difficult to convince him that he should drop the Tigers for anyone. ❏ TheWolverine.com Your No. 1 Resource for extensive Michigan Football coverage * RECRUITING SCOOP Breaking news, team and individual rankings, features on every commitment, over 10 years of archived recruiting information.
