Alugbue, who attended the same high school in Southern California as Brown, didn't play much on the outside before she got to Notre Dame. The three other lo- cal players on the Irish roster, along with a coach who has successfully transplanted from the sunny West Coast to the Midwest, made Alugbue's decision to come to Notre Dame easier and helped her transition smoothly. Brown said she knew her fellow El Segundo alumnus had the athletic abil- ity to be a force for the Irish offense, but started her in the middle to get her on the court as a freshman. Senior Paul McNamara III shot a one-over-par 214 during the three-round tournament to lead the team with a sixth-place individual finish. The Irish finished second as a team, just two strokes behind Toledo. Overall, the Irish beat 30 of the 49 teams they faced in fall tournaments this year. MEN'S GOLF Notre Dame's men's golf team ended its fall schedule with a second-place finish at the Georgetown — Dan Murphy team in blocks as a freshman, and has been equally effective with her broader role in the past couple of months. "She has a lot of power in her arm, and we wanted to be able to get her the ball a little bit more, and typically the outside hitter position is the position that's going to have the most swings," Brown said. With four regular-season games re- maining, including the season finale at Marquette, Alugbue and the Irish will try to get some separation at the top of the standings. The Golden Eagles are tied with Notre Dame in first place cur- rently and are the only team to beat the Irish in Big East play this year. ✦
