MOST RECENT MEETING The Nittany Lions totaled 524 yards, breaking the Terrapins' five-game winning streak with a 38-14 vic- tory at Beaver Stadium on Oct. 8, 2016. GOOD NEWS While Maryland has fielded one of the Big Ten's more porous pass defenses this season, it has held its past three opponents to fewer than 10 completions. Rutgers hit only eight passes, Michigan nine and Michigan State two. BAD NEWS Saturday's game will be the third in a row in which Maryland has faced a ranked opponent. The Terps have faced five ranked foes this year and have lost four of those games, falling to Ohio State (64-14), Wisconsin (38-13), Michigan (35-10) and Michigan State (17-7). Their one victory over a ranked opponent came on opening day when they shocked Texas, 51-41. DID YOU KNOW? Since joining the Big Ten in 1993, Penn State has gone 42-4 against Football Bowl Subdivision oppo- nents that are located within 250 miles of University Park. However, one of those four losses was to the Terps, 20-19, in 2014. Mary- land's campus is 199 miles from Penn State. M A T T   H E R B | M A T T @ B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . But like most of the throws the two teams attempted on a snowy, gusty after- noon in East Lansing, this one, too, ended in disappointment. The Spartans held on for a 17-7 victory despite completing only two passes for 20 yards, and the Terrapins headed home with yet another loss. A few days later, at his midweek news conference, Terps coach D.J. Durkin was asked whether he saw signs of progress the 10-point defeat, a game in which Maryland was within striking distance in the fourth quarter despite A FAREWELL TO ARMS It's been next-man-up at QB for the injury-ravaged Terps Borten- schlager has played in 11 games and started seven for Maryland. He's one of four quarter- backs to have started at least one game, as the team's top two QBs both suf- fered sea- son-ending injuries in September.
