cavalier sports DECEMBER 2017 11 When Andre Levrone committed to Virginia in April 2012, he was a three- star wide receiver at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md. He hoped he would be the next in a line of players to do well in Charlottesville, but injuries throughout his first few years on Grounds kept his potential hidden — until his fourth-year campaign. In 12 regular-season games, the 6-3, 225 pounder had more receptions (31) than his first three seasons combined (25) for 662 yards and seven touchdowns, which was tied for fifth best in the ACC. Levrone took time out from his busy schedule to answer five questions about his time in orange and blue. Cavalier Corner: After dealing with so many injuries over the years, how does it feel to have the final season you're having? Levrone: "It's felt pretty good. There are still plays that I leave out on the field, though. When the season's over, I'll be able to look back and reflect, and I'll be able to hopefully say I put together a good season. "Right now I'm just focusing on every single week, every opponent that we have, and being as valuable to my team and to my offense as possible." Cavalier Corner: What do you think the biggest difference was about this season? Levrone: "I would say just being healthy. Coach [Bronco] Mendenhall talked to me and a lot of guys at the beginning of this season about productiv- ity, durability and consistency. "Those all go hand in hand. Just being healthy and being durable this sea- son has definitely been huge for me. I've been able to play to my potential instead of people just talking about my potential." Cavalier Corner: What was it like to earn that sixth win and know your class had led UVA back to the postseason? Levrone: "That Saturday and Sunday there was a little bit of time to re- flect with your teammates, but now we're moving forward. "Coach [Marques] Hagans stresses a lot: 'Short memory,' whether it's good or bad. Short memory. I think that's what we have to have, but it's been great what we've been able to accomplish this season." Cavalier Corner: What will be some of your big takeaways from your time on Grounds? Levrone: "It'll be my team and brotherhood, and the community. I've got a lot of great friendships with a lot of students and other student-athletes at UVA. Those bonds, they will last a lifetime. "Having this season will stand out to me as well. It's been an incredible ride. I've said it time and time again — it's a true blessing to have had Coach Mendenhall come here with his staff and have them work with us and to have Coach Hagans be able to stay along with me for the entire ride. "It's been a great opportunity to be mentored by Coach Hagans and learn the lessons that Coach Mendenhall and his staff have shed on our team. To see and to be a part of the change in culture here, it's been incredible." Cavalier Corner: What's the future hold for Andre Levrone once he leaves Charlottesville? Levrone: "God willing, I'll be able to go forward and have a long career in the NFL for as long as He will allow. That's definitely my goal and my hope. "But I also have a degree in media studies, and this past winter I did an internship with Whiting Turner, a national contracting company. I'm just looking to work in the marketing realm with them or get into some sort of broadcasting once my football career has ended." — Brad Franklin five questions Redshirt Fourth-Year Wide Receiver Andrew Levrone Levrone set career bests in receptions (31), receiving yards (662) and touchdown grabs (seven) during UVA's 12 regular-season games this fall.
