26 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER Unanimous All-American Chubb became NC State's seventh consensus All-American (earned first-team honors from at least half of the officially recognized organizations by the NCAA) and just the fifth to earn unanimous laurels (first-team choice by all). He was named a first-team selection by the Associated Press, Walter Camp Foundation, Football Writers Association of America, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News and American Football Coaches Association. The other six consensus All-Americans in school history were (* — unanimous): Defensive tackle Dennis Byrd — 1967* Offensive lineman Bill Yoest — 1973* Running back Ted Brown — 1978* Center Jim Ritcher — 1978*, 1979* Kicker Marc Primanti — 1996 Wide receiver Torry Holt — 1998 National Awards Bradley Chubb won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (right), presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and voted upon by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) to select the best defensive player in college football. He also took home the Ted Hen- dricks Award, which is given to the best defensive end nationally. The senior becomes just the fourth NC State football player to win a national award. The others: Jim Ritcher — The 1979 Outland Trophy for best interior lineman. Marc Primanti — The 1996 Lou Groza Award for best placekicker.
