JANUARY 2018 ■ 99 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING The 6-4, 260-pounder played pri- marily left tackle this season, but projects to be a defensive tackle at NCSU. He picked up offers from Maryland and Virginia in Novem- ber and was still being recruited by Louisville, the school he was briefly committed to, but was expected to enroll early at NC State. Rivals.com lists the 6-4, 260-pounder — who was selected to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl Dec. 30 in New Orleans — as a three-star prospect. DEFENSIVE LINEMAN ALIM MCNEILL Raleigh Sanderson High McNeill did a little bit of everything for Sanderson High, which lost to eventual state champion Wake Forest (N.C.) High in the quarterfinals of the 4-AA play- offs and ended the year with a 9-4 mark. For the season, McNeill rushed for eight touchdowns on offense and had 60 total stops (51 solo), 18 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception, two passes broken up, one safety and one fumble recovery. The 6-3, 280-pounder played primarily linebacker on defense. Rivals.com elevated McNeill to four-star status and ranked him as the No. 11 prospect in the state, and the No. 16 defensive tackle and No. 244 overall recruit nationally. He was picked for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Jan. 6 in San Antonio. CORNERBACK KISHAWN MILLER Milledgeville (Ga.) Georgia Military College Miller missed the first three games of the year with an elbow injury, but in the final seven contests he notched 17 tackles, one stop for loss, three interceptions (one pick-six) and four passes bro- ken up for GMC, which finished the year 8-2. The 5-9, 170-pound Gainesville, Ga., native is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. RUNNING BACK TRENT PENNIX Raleigh Sanderson High Pennix helped Sanderson High make a run to the quarterfinals of the 4-AA state playoffs, where it fell to eventual state champ Wake For- est High. Sanderson finished 9-4. For the season, Pennix rushed 201 times for 1,247 yards and 16 scores in 11 games. He also caught 34 passes for 397 yards and three touchdowns. Defen- sively, he compiled 15 tackles, two interceptions and three passes broken up. Rivals.com ranks Pennix as the No. 23 player from the state and the No. 37 running back in the country. RUNNING BACK RICKY PERSON Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High Person had a huge senior season for Heritage High, rushing 262 times for a school-record 2,230 yards and 38 touchdowns in 13 games for a 12-2 squad.
