Last season, not knowing where the Irish were headed while they tinkered with their lineup and looked for ways to replace Abromaitis (knee), folks ex- pected very little in conference play. This season is different, and Notre Dame has experience winning big games at home and on the road in the Big East. make or break a season. Nonconference (three): St. Joseph's These are the matchups that can BUBBLE GAMES (20-14) and Brigham Young (26-9) or Florida State (25-10) at Brooklyn, N.Y., and Purdue (22-13) at Indianapolis. St. Joseph's, an NIT squad last year, could be an early hurdle for Notre Dame. It's a disciplined team that will make the Irish work on both ends of the court. The first major test will come against BYU or Florida Sate in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic.
