Junior college prospects visit Penn State RYAN SNYDER | B L U E WH I T E I L L U s T R A T E d Penn State hosted roughly 25 re- cruits at Beaver Stadium for the game against Indiana on Saturday. Junior college prospects Jake Wa- ters and Aaron Wimberly of Iowa Western Community College were ar- guably the most significant in atten- dance. Waters, a quarterback, and Wimberly, a running back, flew out from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Friday af- ternoon for an official visit. Once they arrived on campus, both spent time at practice, ate dinner with the coaches and then hung out with their hosts, tight end Kyle Carter and wide receiver Allen Robinson. On Sunday they are expected to meet with academic advisors and the coaches, and they'll tour campus and the football facilities before they head back to Iowa Sunday evening. Defensive lineman Parker Cothren, from Hazel Green, Ala., was also on an official visit. After picking up a scholarship offer from the Nittany Lion coaching staff Nov. 8, both Cothren and his father made the trip. Cothren is currently verbally commit- ted to Purdue, but depending on what happens with Boilermaker head coach Danny Hope, he could very well end up de-committing before signing day on Feb. 6. As of now, he's only considering the Nittany Lions outside of Purdue, but expect Cothren to pick up a few more offers between now and signing day. Class of 2014 defensive back Montae Nicholson, from Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa., made the trip with his coach and mother. Nicholson, who holds 10 scholarship offers from pro- grams like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia, looks as if he'll be the top overall prospect in Pennsylvania next year. He picked up an offer almost immediately after camping at Penn State this summer and could potentially be one of the top five defensive backs on the East Coast when Rivals.com releases its rankings in February. The staff also hosted a handful of po- tential walk-on candidates. One name Jonh Beale to watch closely is Ryan Herr, an ath- lete from Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pa. Herr recently tore his anterior cruciate ligament, but before that he was having a great season, one that gained the Nittany Lion staffs' atten- tion. He has been offered the opportu- nity to be a preferred walk-on at Penn State, so unless Football Bowl Subdi- vision offers come flying in the next few months, expect Herr to join good friend Adam Breneman on the Penn GAME GALLERY State roster next summer. Another potential walk-on is Chris Geiss, a wide receiver from Great Val- ley High School in Malvern, Pa. Like Herr, Geiss also had a breakout senior season, gaining the staff's attention back in October. Despite multiple lower-level programs showing inter- est, Geiss maintains that he'll most likely walk-on at Penn State, even if he's offered a scholarship at a lower division program.
