A: I wanted to attend the University of Virginia because it exemplifies both academic and athletics excellence. While I had the opportunity to be part of a nationally ranked soccer program, I was also lucky enough to receive an education at one of the best public universities. Q: You are tied for the most game appearances in Virginia Women's Soccer history. What does it mean to you to be a part of the rich Virginia Women's Soccer history and tradition of excellence? A: It is a tremendous honor. I can't thank the women's soccer program enough for taking a chance on me coming out of high school. I have made my closest friends, experienced my most exciting sports moments and grown immensely as an individual thanks to this program. Coach Steve Swanson and the entire staff demand a high level of excellence both on and off the field, which has fostered a culture of great soccer players and great people. We have a strong alumni network, which pro- vided the team with endless support during my time at the University. Q: Looking back on your time at UVA, what experiences or trials prepared you for the medical profession? A: UVA prepared me very well for the challenges and academic rigor of dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University; the standard coursework requires 30+ credit hours per semester. I was accustomed to a busy undergraduate schedule with practices, games, my kinesiology curriculum and volunteer work. This taught me the importance of being organized, proactive and disciplined. Q: You completed your Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology in 2013 and contin - ued your education. You recently received your residency match where you will spend your next two years. Can you detail why you entered the health profession and what area of medicine you hope to enter? A: I entered a healthcare field because I wanted to be in a profession where my skills could be used to benefit the public. I recently matched to a two-year residency program at Texas A&M in Dallas for pediatric den - tistry. After completing an undergraduate internship in this dental spe- cialty while attending UVA, I knew that I had a passion for working with kids and individuals with special needs. My interest grew throughout my time in dental school, and I could not be more excited to begin this next chapter in June. Q: What advice do you have for current student-athletes at the University of Virginia? A: I'm sure they hear it all the time but enjoy every minute at UVA be - cause it goes by way too fast. Q: What is your fondest memory from your time at the University of Virginia? A: My favorite memories with the women's soccer team would be win- ning the ACC tournament in 2012 and playing in the College Cup in 2013. The coolest non-athletic experience I had while attending UVA was living on the Lawn my fourth year. Q: You have been supporting the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) since graduation in 2013. Why do you choose to support Virginia Athletics? A: This is a no brainer. I choose to donate to the VAF because of the im - mense support the Foundation provided me throughout my time as a student-athlete. There are so many details that go into making a success- ful program. The VAF was there every step of the way to make sure my team had all the resources we needed to be a national contender. I am committed to the future of Virginia Athletics, and I made it my goal to provide support every year after graduation. cavs for life Spring Social Tour "Save the Date" Sign up for a social near you with guest speakers Tony Bennett, Bronco Mendenhall and other UVA athletics coaches and student-athletes!
