14 MAY 2018 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED UNDER THE DOME MOVING? Call us at 1-800-421-7751 Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Savannah Buchanan — Lacrosse The sophomore's late-game heroics gave Notre Dame a 10-9 win victory versus Duke April 15. The Baltimore na- tive scooped up a loose ball with less than a minute to go and found the back of net for her second goal of the match. Through 15 games, Bu- chanan ranked third on the team in goals (20), was second in points (36) and was tied for the team lead in assists (16). Davis Lamb — Golf The sophomore from Potomac, Md., helped lead Notre Dame to a third-place finish at the Clemson In- vitational April 13-14. He shot a 2-over-par 218 over three rounds to finish sev- enth individually. It marked the second time this season he has been the low scorer for the Irish and was the second of his three top-10 finishes. Through April 22, he ranked third on the team in stroke average (72.48). Sofia Revilak — Swimming & Diving The junior from Mexico City was one of 12 swimmers selected to represent Mexico at the Central American and Caribbean Games July 19- Aug. 3 in Barranquilla, Co- lumbia. She has qualified to compete in the 50-meter freestyle, the 100-meter freestyle and the 4x100- meter freestyle relay. In 2017-18, Revilak earned honorable men- tion All-America accolades as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay. Nathan Richartz — Track & Field The graduate student from Island Lake, Ill., was tabbed as the ACC Field Performer of the Week April after clearing 18 feet, 2.5 inches to win the pole vault at the Sun Angel Track Classic April 6-7. Richartz had won the pole vault event in every outdoor meet he had com- peted in this season as of mid-April, including breaking the school re- cord with a vault of 18-4.5 at the Hurricane Invitational March 16-17. TOP OF THE CLASS ✦ GIMME FIVE Junior guard Arike Ogunbowale set the wom- en's basketball program's single-season record for points scored (791) and most games tallying at least 20 points (25) during Notre Dame's march to the national title. Her scoring average of 20.8 points per game also eclipsed the stan- dard set by forward Katryna Gaither in 1996-97, the first of eight times Notre Dame has ad- vanced to the Final Four. Ogunbowale also was only the third Fighting Irish player to surpass the 20-point barrier in a full season. Not even luminaries such as Na- tional Player of the Year Ruth Riley for the 2001 national champions or three-time All-American Skylar Diggins achieved the feat. Here are the top five women's basketball scor- ing marks at Notre Dame: Player (Year) Scoring Average 1. Arike Ogunbowale (2017-18) 20.8 2. Katryna Gaither (1996-97) 20.4 3. Beth Morgan (1995-96) 20.2 4. Jewell Loyd (2014-15) 19.79 5. Katryna Gaither (1995-96) 19.77 Note: The program began in 1977-78, and Trena Keys' mark of 19.6 was the high-water mark for a decade until the Gaither-Morgan combination overtook her. Getting To Know … SOPHOMORE TIGHT END BROCK WRIGHT Hometown: "Cypress, Texas." High School: "Cy-Fair." Favorite Food: "Steak or BBQ." Favorite Place To Eat In South Bend: "Ruth's Chris, if someone else is buying. Me, Tommy Kraemer and Robert Hainsey love Cheddar's. It's cheap and it's good food." Favorite Movie: "'Forrest Gump.'" Favorite Music: "Country." Favorite Musician: "The Turnpike Troubadours." Favorite TV Show: "'Entourage.'" Favorite Professional Sports Team: "Either the Houston Texans or the Houston Rockets." Favorite part about playing for Notre Dame: "Being around the team, for sure. You come to Notre Dame and you notice immediately that it's a different group of guys. The culture is really unique here and our team is awesome. I love my teammates, so getting to be around them all the time is pretty great." Who's the best player you've ever lined up across from?: "[Junior defensive lineman] Daelin Hayes is a pretty tough player to block. We've gotten into it. He's a talented guy, he's tough, he's strong, and he's definitely one of the best players I've gone against." CHARTING THE IRISH NOTRE DAME AND THE NFL DRAFT UNDER BRIAN KELLY The 2018 NFL Draft marked the eighth for Brian Kelly at Notre Dame in which players he coached were eligible to be selected. Under Kelly's watch, a total of 29 Irish players have been picked in the seven-round event. That number will grow with offensive linemen Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and running Josh Ad- ams all expected to be selected during this year's draft April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. In addition, tight end Durham Smythe and linebackers Greer Martini and Nyles Morgan could hear their names called. Heading into this year's draft, the position group with the most selections is the defensive line (five). However, the four offensive linemen picked during that time span — boosted by two first-round selections, Zack Mar- tin at No. 16 in 2014 and Ronnie Stanley at No. 6 in 2016 — had an average draft position of 40.3 (early second round) compared to 131.4 (early fifth round) for the defensive line (with Stephon Tuitt, at No. 46 overall in the sec- ond round in 2014, the group's highest drafted player). Here is a look at the number of draft picks and average pick number for each position group from 2011-17. NOTRE DAME'S DRAFT SELECTIONS BY POSITION GROUP SINCE 2011 Draft Picks Position Group (1st-Rounders) Avg.
