Joe Theismann was next with 147 passing and 107 rushing during a 1970 victory at Michi- gan State (29-0). It took 18 years before Tony Rice became the third during the 1988 national title run with 129 passing and 107 rushing in a 42-14 conquest of Stanford. In 1998 versus Stanford, a 35-17 win, Jarious Jackson became the fourth with 163 passing and 100 rushing. Jackson then made history in the 34-30 comeback conquest of Oklahoma the next season when he became the first to pass for 200 yards (276) and still rush for at least 100 (107). Under Brian Kelly, sophomore DeShone Kizer nearly took it a step fur- ther with 299 passing and 143 rushing in a 24-20 win versus Temple, and a few weeks later in a 38-36 loss at Stanford he threw for 234 and ran for 128. As a junior last season, Brandon Wimbush set the Notre Dame single-season and career records for 100-100 efforts: • 184 passing and 106 rushing in a 49-16 win over Temple • 120 passing and 106 rushing in a 49-14 thrashing of USC • 280 passing and 110 rushing in the 48-37 victory versus Wake Forest He barely missed a fourth with 96 passing in the 49-20 win at Boston College — while rushing for 207, easily a school record by a quarterback. Now, if Wimbush ever comes within even 10 percentage points of his senior season completion rate at New Jersey's St. Peter's Prep's (72.3) while passing for 3,187 yards with 37 touchdowns and four interceptions ... Brandon Wimbush set the Notre Dame single-season and career records for most combined 100-yard passing and 100-yard rushing games as a junior last year, compiling 184 passing and 106 rushing versus Temple, 120 passing and 106 rushing against USC, and 280 passing and 110 rushing versus Wake Forest.
