Others have been participating in in- ternships around the country (three with VAF) and finding ways to train after long days at work. In our office, we continue to focus on improving the student-athlete experience and interacting with as many donors as possible who passionately support our program. Funding scholarships through our Annual Fund and endowment is of paramount importance and how most donors can participate in supporting the student-athlete experience. Through the first six months of the year, we are grateful that over 1,800 of our 6,559 Annual Fund donors have increased their commitment by 10% or more. Our goal in this category of support is to have 3,000 donors increase their Annual Fund pledge by 10%. If you haven't done so but would like to be included in this important group, please let us know. Since the June issue of Cavalier Corner, we have increased the commitment to Virginia Football through our Coaches 10 initiative to almost $2 million. With a goal of $2.5 million in commitments, we hope to have this effort completed in the coming months. Once completed, Coach Mendenhall will have $500,000 per year for a five-year period to make strategic investments in the operation of the football program. He has already been able to add several recruiting analysts to assist in building the roster who are making an immediate impact on the program. Coach Mendenhall also added some crucial staff members in the strength and condition- ing area who will make significant contributions to the play on the field. If you have any interest in supporting our football initiative, I encourage you to contact a member of our staff. An area you will see a lot of activity in the coming months will be with facili- ties. The University of Virginia Board of Visitors meetings in September will pro- vide the next step in reviewing the progress on the new softball stadium and the overall development of the athletics master facility plan. This plan will include a new operations building to support the football program as well as a replacement building for the coaches and student-athletes who currently work and train in Uni- versity Hall, Onesty Hall and the Cage. As these plans unfold, we look forward to sharing the vision with our entire fan-base. This effort will truly shape the future of Virginia Athletics. As our student-athletes and coaches prepare for another season, the competition in the ACC and nationally continues to be fierce. Your support directly impacts the success of our programs. In August, we welcome a new class of student-athletes and start another exciting season for the Cavaliers. From the first day student- athletes step on Grounds to the day they walk the Lawn, you have a profound impact on their experience. Along the way we get to celebrate their success in the classroom and in athletic competition, creating lifetime memories for our student- athletes and fans. Thank you for your continued support.
